Facebook for iOS Gets a Smooth, Speedy New Update, Rewritten From the Ground Up!

By Sam On Thursday,

On Thursday, Facebook (finally) updated its slow, freeze-happy, and universally panned iOS app. And based on my first ten minutes of interaction with the updated app, Facebook has succeeded at delivering an improved user experience for all social media users on the iOS platform.

In June, MMi reported that 21,000 of the 38,000 people who had reviewed the iOS Facebook app as of that time, gave the app just one star. But given the noticeable improvements delivered today, there’s a good chance that many subsequent user ratings will be more favorable.

“We’ve rebuilt the app so it’s faster and easier to use,” the company says of version 5.0. Among the touted improvements are:

* Scrolling through news feed is faster than ever
* New banner lets you tap to quickly see more stories – no need to refresh
* Photos open fast and close with one downward swipe
* Instant access to your notifications

The free 7.3-megabyte download is now up for grabs at the iOS App Store and is friendly with all iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches running iOS 4.3 or later.
